Last weekend, I got married! I can’t believe it, and like everyone told me, it was a whirlwind of a day! From getting up early to going to bed late and the parties leading up to the wedding and ending the weekend. And now, in the post tiredness of the wedding, I can’t wait to see the pictures, to experience my wedding all over again! But, what I am looking forward to the most after seeing the photos, is scent-enabling them!
Walking out of the dressing room and towards the aisle, I could smell the moisture of the fog in the air and the grass that stretched before us. The flowers in my bouquet and on the table smelled strongly of mint. When we walked into the reception for the first time, all I could smell was fried chicken! It was amazing, comforting, welcoming. When we cut the cake, and I bit down, all I could smell was chocolate. It was delicious. I went back for seconds (and thirds). Scent was not a secondary experience but, blended into the tapestry of the day, part the memory of this special event.
Experiences are not made up solely of images but a combination of all the senses. That is what makes them beautiful. Some of our family members were not able to attend the wedding, and for the first time, I will be able to show them what the day smelled like, not only let them see it. And hopefully, this will make my memories come alive for them and make them feel like they were there.
What about you? What photo albums would you like to scent-enable?
If it was your wedding, what scents bring you back to that day?
